Strong cars burns out after leading a good part of race
After two top5 in that last 4 races, and 3top10s in the last 4 Elliott was ready for a win. After nocking on the door last week, why not win this week. After qualifing was rained out on friday, he started 9th, (posistion in the points). His car would not take long to come in, and would lead many laps, through out the day. Bill would not slip out of the top10 all day untill a final pitstop put him behing because of teams only taking two tires. Elliott would only run about 10-15laps longer untill engine problems forced him out off the race. Both Evernham Motorsports teams had engine troubles. Jeremy with a drive-trane. More to come Tuesday, NEXT UP:Michigain, Elliott's favorite track is home to 4 of his wins, and 5poles, he nearly won there last year untill the race was cut short due to rain, and fellow Dodge driver Sterling Marlin won. Elliott ended up second. He finish 9th there in the spring race. |

Mayfeild's struggles continue.
After coming into his own a few races ago. Jeremy Mayfield has begun to struggle, and his finishes are not what he is running. He performance has been alot better than his finishes but luck has not been on his side the last few weeks. He finished 36th on sunday with drive-trane problems. Mayfield at one point looked like he was coming in, and would be in the top 15 of points. The last few weeks he has falling from 16th to 25th. Mayfield is running better than his finishes look. Lady Luck needs to fall on him, before they get too far back, he can't catch up. |
EVERNHAM/ULTRA MOTORSPORTS NEWS/INFO: Furr bringing alot to Atwood team, last 5races finished in top25.
After weeks of struggling, Atwood is coming into a rythme where he perfoms better and better each week. About 5 races ago Ray hired TOny Furr(who lefted from Hendrick Motorsports #25team) and since the vetereain crew chief joined the team they have alot better finishes. Before Fur joined the highest finish was 18, and now its 11th. Furr has helped turn a 40th running team into a consistant contender. Atwood has moved from 39th in points to 33rd, and continues to get better. |
Consistancy keeping Elliott in the hunt for the championship
After 14 races, Bill Elliott has 2top5's, 6top10's, and now sits 11th in points after engine problems on Sunday. yeah he is not 3rd in the points like Jeff Gordon, who aswell has no wins, but Elliott is more involved with the points race than he has been since 1997, when he finish 15th. Elliott slips in and out of the top10, his highest rating was 6th this year, but since about race#7 he has slipped in and out of the top10 of points. If Elliott is able to really get consistant he will be a points contender exspecialy if he gets a win or two.
